  • Collaborated with Network Director to improve hiring and training practices
  • Worked on hiring team to evaluate applicants; guided new hires through training and provided feedback through email, Slack, and live Q&A sessions
  • Designed protocol for working with New Oriental, the largest private educational organization in China; developed strategies for writing instructors to overcome cultural and language barriers

The Joshua School (TJS) in Boulder, CO is a program serving K-12 and transition-age students on the autism spectrum. TJS is committed to helping each individual with autism spectrum disorder and developmental disabilities attain the highest quality of life, valuing each unique mind, body and spirit.  

  • Collaborated with lead teachers, SLPs, OTs, and other specialists to create individualized student programming in academic, social, vocational, community, and life skills
  • Collected data on student progress, graphed progress over time, and used applied behavior analysis practices to adjust teaching strategies as needed
  • Developed and prepared lesson plans, educational materials, and curricula for students in the transition program (ages 16-22) on topics including:
    • Academic skills; adapted K-12 curricula including language arts, math, history, and science to students’ unique needs and interests
    • Life skills; developed curricula to teach independent skills like automobile maintenance, filing taxes, and home maintenance
    • Social-emotional skills; developed curricula on topics like emotional regulation, workplace etiquette, and sex education

While studying theatre at Northwestern University, I became interested in creating productions that cater specifically to audience members on the autism spectrum. 

Seesaw Theatre; Sept 2013-Jun 2015
Seesaw Theatre produces multi-sensory theatre for those with autism-spectrum disorder and other developmental differences.

  • Founding member of Seesaw Theatre’s executive board at Northwestern University in 2013
  • Served as Design Chair from May 2014-April 2015; guided Seesaw’s productions and design philosophy to ensure that performances were sensory-friendly, engaging, and safe for all audience members
  • Designed and performed in three productions, 2013-2015
  • Presented on the development and discoveries of Seesaw Theatre at the 2015 Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space

 

Red Kite, Chicago Children’s Theater; Jul 2017-Dec 2019

  • Developed curriculum for Red Kite Summer Camp’s visual arts class to individuals on the autism spectrum, ages 8-22
    • Used strategies to improve campers’ functional and social communication in the context of learning arts and crafts
    • Collaborated with other staff to devise short play with older campers age 15-22, worked with campers to design and execute costumes, props, and scenery
  • Taught 16-week drama course in special needs classrooms across the Chicagoland area
    • Developed curricula and learning activities to improve functional and social communication in the context of theatre games
    • Engaged limited-verbal or non-verbal students by providing a variety of scaffolding like using PECS, visual prompts, and physical cues

  • Collaborated with students and teachers on costumes, masks, and puppet design for various theatrical productions

  • Taught hand-sewing and machine-sewing techniques to produce clothing, accessories, and other projects with kids ages 6-12 in a group setting
