Let's Define Artistry!

Artistry is:

  • When learning designers craft cohesive, compelling experiences
  • When learning designers value the human experience of a design
  • When learning designers use storytelling to guide the use of design elements

Artistry is not:

  • When the aesthetic design of a learning experience doesn’t match or enhance the content
  • When a learning experience feels soulless
  • When there isn’t a throughline that helps guide the learner through the experience

Why is artistry important?

  • It may seem obvious, but if a learning experience isn’t enjoyable or fun, learners won’t be as motivated to learn
  • Making an experience beautiful helps to gain and hold learners’ attention
  • Providing a visual, auditory, or multi-sensory experience that matches and emphasizes the ideas being presented helps to draw learners in

My approach to artistry

  • As when designing theatre productions, I will approach designing learning experiences from both an artistic and pragmatic perspective.
  • I will design intriguing, beautiful, joyful experiences that illustrate the concepts covered in the learning experiences.
